About Me

Dr. Arela Agako seated in an armchair with a laptop, wearing a beige sweater.

Welcome! I’m Dr. Arela Agako, a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and founder of ACMH Clinic. I also co-founded Repair, an app designed to help couples improve communication and manage conflicts.

I completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at McMaster University, with extensive experience across various clinical settings. In my clinical practice, I specialize in trauma and PTSD, particularly complex PTSD and intergenerational trauma, as well as high-conflict relationships, Borderline Personality Disorder, and emotion dysregulation. I also work with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, insomnia, OCD, burnout, self-esteem concerns, and relationship difficulties. My approach is evidence-based, focused on creating a compassionate, inclusive space for healing.

In addition to my clinical work, my research focuses on emotion dysregulation, particularly during the perinatal period. My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at international conferences, and featured in outlets like Psychology Today, Forbes, and Therapy Tips.

I established ACMH to offer culturally sensitive, evidence-based care, particularly for the Albanian-Canadian community. As the first Albanian-speaking clinical psychologist in Ontario registered to work with adults, I provide therapy in both Albanian and English, helping clients navigate cultural adaptation and identity challenges. I am also dedicated to supporting clients from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and the LGBTQ2S+ community with individualized, culturally informed care.

If you're looking for a warm, supportive environment to explore your challenges and take the next step toward healing, I'd be honored to support you and your loved ones. Let’s work together to achieve well-being and balance in your life.
